Infant Transitional Home

Infant Transitional Home

Our infant transitional home typically serves 45 – 50 children as a refuge for abandoned infants under one year old. These newborns, left on the streets or in hospitals, are typically brought to us through official channels such as the Women’s and Children’s governmental agency or from the local police force. Upon their arrival, we ensure immediate medical attention, covering all the costs of their treatment. Once they are medically stable, we bring them to Netsanet Children’s Village. Here, they receive love, care, nourishment, clothing, and comfortable beds. This provides the essential elements necessary for infant and baby during these crucial early developmental stages.

The overarching goal of the infant transitional home revolves around three key elements. First, once healthy, we try to reunify and reintegrate the infants with their biological families or with local relatives. However, in order to accomplish this, the families need to be located and have the ability to properly care for the child. Second, we actively seek to place the healthy babies with local families for adoption. This placement plan has been proven very successful. Third, when family reunification or adoption is not possible, at 18 months of age we transition the now toddlers into our group homes. At that time, the children will typically grow up with us, becoming an integral part of our Netsanet family.
